I don't know what is the best combo for the street, but I do know that the ITP All Trail 22" x 10" is NOT a good combo for street and speed. Mine has the 4" lift. It does great off the asphalt though at just about any speed.

2003 PDS will do 19mph with the freedom chip ... you will loose torque which is why it is bad to add the the speed chip and the big tires. Actually any tire size increase amounts to a gear change. Any gearing change with the stock controller will result in the controller destructing over time. You would be better off making a controller and cable upgrade & leaving the stock tires for 20-24 mph now, and tires next. Hope this helps.

I plan on doing the 48v conversion with 400A controller and 4ga cables in the near future. So, I'm looking for wheel, tire, lift advice based on those upgrades. I just noticed a lot of vendors offering "free shipping" for the holidays and it got me thinking about some of the "heavier" upgrades that could be purchased now. I am specifically looking at the EZGO Mid Rise 2" Lift Kit since the price is right. I'm not sure what size tire this would clear or if it could be combined with a drop axle kit in the future. Let me know what you think.

A 2 inch lift should allow a 4 inch taller tire. That is a good kit if you have worn springs. It looks like it would work with a drop axle later. But why not just go for a 4 inch drop axle now?

T, I think the mid-rise kit is just heavier more arched springs and longer shackles in the rear. It will let you run 20" tires and not much more. Go check their Econ 4" lift. With it you just pull the hubs from your existing axle and bolt it on. Little more money but worth it. If your looking for deals they do have 20% off right now plus free shipping. Just make sure you give credit to one of the sponsors here

From what I've read, the springs should be upgraded to HD when adding the rear seats and it doesn't look like the previous owner did that. So that kit would be a combination of having the proper suspension and a small lift.

Scottyb, are you saying that I could run a 22" tire then? It sounds like kgsc is saying that 20" would be the biggest size. I am fine with running 20" tires if that is a good size for speed. I would also be okay with a 4" lift kit if bigger tires are necessary for more speed. Does it come down to the bigger the better since it is essentially a gear change? Or is there more to it than that?

The lift in the kit you showed was 2" between the wheel hubs and the body, the bigger tire size (when mounted on the hub) is split 50/50 above and below the hub. A 4" taller tire gets 2" closer to the body.
If you go over 22 I recommend you increase torque (bigger controller etc) and possibly a bigger motor for true performance....

If Scottyb says it will handle 22s then I would believe him. He knows WAY more than I do. I just bought the 4" for me because I wanted the clearance. As for the gear change, bigger tires will get more speed because they travel farther per revolution, however they require more power to turn. So more power means bigger controllers, more voltage, etc. You get the picture. You need to figure out how much you want to spend and go backwards. Oh, and double it

Okay. 22" Tires will work. They seem to be a popular choice on this site in general. I'm not looking to upgrade the motor anytime soon. Can I stick with the stock 8" wheels or would I be better off going to a 10" or 12" wheel? I was looking at using four of these 22x10-8 ATV tires. Would that work for my application?
