Originally every 48v made has an OBC in it starting in 1995. The 36v carts did not have the OBC and some carts have had the OBC removed or bypassed.
It is easy to see if your 48v cart has an OBC by following the main (-) cable from battery #6 to the Speed controller. It will run through the on board computer.

You can use a club car charger with a obc. That is what controls you charger. When you plug the charger into the cart the charger will start full charge for a couple minutes than shut off than start back full charge until upper 50s volts than drop to half charge until complete.

Yep that's the OBC. A Powerdrive charger will not work without one.
