Is a voltage reducer required to install a light kit on a 2009 Club Car Precedent? I have a 6 battery 48v system.

Not required but highly suggested or at a minimum get a separate battery for accessories. Robbing two batts will degrade those batteries further than the rest

Not only will it rob those batteries but you'd be running 12v lights with 16v. You don't have to use a reducer, however, you can run a separate, dedicated 12v battery just for lights and accessories - that's the method I chose and it works well. I run a full light kit, stereo, and powered sub off of a dedicated battery mounted in my bagwell.

I thought there was a blue wire specifically on the Precedents that was dedicated for a light system? Maybe someone on here can correct me if I'm wrong.

There is - at least on both of my Precedents, which are 4x12 setups. But that draws power off of the 4th battery in the pack and is not the best approach, even though it is factory equipped that way. There are people here that run lights that way - I have run lights that way. And some people with 8v setups just say screw it and hook 2 batteries to the lights. Any of that should work, at least in the short term, but is not the best approach, in the long run, for your lights and batteries. If you don't use lights much, but need them when you need them, it will have less of a short term impact than if you use the lights often. It draws down the power of that 4th battery more than the other 3 are being drawn on and then the other 3 batteries get hit when on the charger because it takes more time for the 4th battery to come up to full charge. Over time, this puts extra wear and shortens the life of all of the batteries.

This is the only reason I've not yet rewired the light kit on our cart to run from the reducer as it is not very often at all that we are out after dark with the cart....

How about some pics on how you mounted the battery in the bagwell? I'm going that route but a big marine battery does not really fit very well with the lump in the middle.

A good 360 watt converter will do the trick and more wired to your entire pack, and your batteries will of course be charged as normal without having to charge an extra one in the back. But either way you're doing the right thing to not pull from just one or two batteries, especially if you use your lights, brake lights or accessories during the holidays.
