Club Car, E-Z-Go, or Other?

Hello everyone, I am Dereck and new to the Forum. Some of you may have seen this thread that I started, but I have some generic questions that should be up your alley.

Briefly I am going to buy a used factory stock golf cart for golf. I live in a gated area and the course is about 1-1/2 miles away so I will need to drive on the streets to get there. I do not need a street legal cart as the roads are private and the POA allows carts on the streets.

I prefer an electric cart over gas. However I want one that can go at least around 20 mph. and if my research is correct only E-Z-GO (RXV line), and Club Car Precedent are the only two capable of achieving this speed. Is this correct or is there another manufacture I am not aware of.

My other concern with an electric is since I live 1-1/2 miles from the course can an electric make the round trip and play a round on a charge?

On a related note when I was out in Phoenix (Sun City) earlier this year visiting my relatives I played quite a bit of golf. As we would drive around in a car in the neighborhoods going to/from the courses, little ole ladies and ole men would zoom past us in their golf carts going at least 35 or 40. What gives? Can folks in Sun City get golf carts we cannot?

depending on what you want you can modify the cart to climb a tree............lol.......a stock cart with good well maintained batteries should get you 20 to 22 miles between charges and always leave your charger on till it shuts off itself........as for speed........high speed motor bigger controller high speed gears lots of things you can do but it does cost money........next time you see one doing 40 mph stop them and ask how much it cost them to get there.............................

Shadowman thanks, but I am pretty much just looking for a factory stock model. I found a used 2003 Club Car Precedent IQ with new Trojan batteries for $2400 I think it might do the job, but I understand the speeds are programable and a factory rep has to make the program change. Don't know what the program is set to now on the cart.

Anyone knows what a dealer might charge to check and change the program?

Dereck I live in a POA comunitie as you. I have a 2001 EZ GO pds and a 2004 CC Precedent. In my opinion the EZ GO is far better. 1. you can program it yourself 2. It is a much better ride if you have a mile to get to the course.
3. less maintenance more generic parts available. Only drawback is the frame is steel opposed to an aluminum in the CC 4. You can get help from EZ GO
and not from CC. You will have to go to a CC dealer to change the performance. With EZGo all that is needed is a jumper. You will hear about changing speed chips all that is a jumper.. I have my EZGO set up with a spdt
switch so I can change from High speed to high tourque just by a flip of the switch.. hope my ramble helps..

The only thing I have done to the EZ was new Batterys, Batt cables and an
axle bearing and it runs at 32.6 on level paved rd.

The CC has had a new controller, solonids and Mcor and still does not run as it should..

Ok you sparked my interest. Can you or someone else tell me what a PDS motor means? I am an electrical engineer so tell me details like AC or DC, series or regen, voltage etc... From a limited amount of resaearch I find EZgo PDS line is limited to 15 MPH. What am I missing?

Ok that is easy to digest steel is stronger, rust, and heavier over alluinum. Parts, service and availibility is a bid deal IMO. Lot of EZ dealers in my area.

Yes that helps greatly and I understand. Where does this switch get connected too? Does it take a mod to controller or motor? Something does not sound right to go from a 15 mph machine to 30, that takes at least 4 times the power?

dislexis fingers not 32 should have been 23. Sorry dont have the schematic here now but; it is a very simple task to change speed and torque take the cover off of the controller and right in front of you is a connector. do a search for wiring diagram it will show it. The motor is a regen DC. Remember increase speed loose torque/ increase torque loose speed. Good luck This forum has many helpful folks...
