New club car....have questions
Hey guys, I have been a member here for a while. I previously had a gasser club car, I ended up selling it and now am back with a new project. I bought a project club car, the best I can tell by the serial it is a 2001 Club Car DS 48v Regen. I am not familiar with the regen part of this. I have searched and cannot find any info on these type carts. I am looking to build a basic lifted cart, 14" rims with 23-24" tires, lift kit and want a little speed for around town use. Can anyone guide me to what speed I can get out of this thing with the mods above? I would like to see 25ish with some additional bottom end torque. Can someone explain all this to me, thanks in advance.
PS: I am basically starting fresh, the cart has bad batteries and I have not seen it run. I do not know if controller is good etc... |

Re: New club car....have questions
Regenerative braking (usually called regen for short) is simply the act of turning a motor into a generator, so that it slows down the load it was previously driving. Instead of converting momentum into heat with friction brakes, regen puts some of that energy back into the traction pack, not only saving wear on the brakes, but giving a little boost to range every time you stop. the benefits of regen itself are often more psychological than practical.

Interesting.....what is the difference as far as upgrades? I didn't get a charger so I am looking at the chargers Scottyb sells and getting rid of the OBC. Can I get rid of the OBC with no issues using the dpi charger?

Re: New club car....have questions
yes get DPI charger and do away with OBC ... OBC tells old chargers how much to charge batteries DPI has its own sensors and can maintain batteries to peak performance
Actually it has 4 speed settings, but the 4th is one that Club Car charges a fee for. It will set the speed to 19.7 miles per hour. It usually cost around $75.00 and Club Car sends the code and some stickers that are supposed to be placed on the cart stating that it does not meet the normal speed specifications and of course the code, which is controler dependant. One sticker will have the persons name or golf cart shop name who purchased the #4 speed upgrade. It still has to be programed by a golf car shop who has the programer. The first 3 speeds can be set without fees from clubcar. You will have to take it to the dealer for re-programming.. I think its called an IQDM-P (IQ display module-programmer) it also will tell what speed code you have best bet is to get with scottb |

Re: New club car....have questions
Take your cart out with a GPS and get a flat out speed for it. "Golf" Carts are SC programmed from 1 to 3 whereas a SC4 requires a special sticker be applied to the dash (?) and controller as it allows speeds above what is allowed on/in many golf courses.

What would be the best way to test function of golf cart without batteries? Could I use heavy duty jumper cables from my dads 48v ezgo pack to my club car controller input cables? And put my cart on jack stands just to see if controller etc is good?

If I use the dpi charger can I remove the OBC completely? I am taking this cart down to the frame and building it back up so I want it to be as neat and clean as possible.
