help 98 ds grinding noise- Deep in the trans axle??
I have a 98 ds 48 volt cart, It has a 7 hp motor in it, but other than that it is stock.
I have a grinding noise coming from the rear, when the tires are moving. When i step on the brakes, it gets louder. I think it is on the passenger side, because after i jacked it up and removed the passenger wheel, brakes axle, i can freely spin the drivers side rear with no noise. So far i have replaced both rear axle bearings and seals. The brakes look great, way over 50 % left with no scoring of the drums etc. I removed the motor to look at the brushes, and they look great, they are massive! With the entire passenger side dismantled all the way to the housing, i can put the axle in the the hole and spin it, and it sounds like it is still grinding. I have a new inner axle tube bearing, but i have to crack open the gear case to get it out. Does anyone have any thoughts on what all i should replace? |

You are so far into it why not drain oil and remove the cover and inspect. Sounds like one of the gears has lost some teeth.

Re: help 98 ds grinding noise- Deep in the trans axle??
I have the gear case on the floor, with all the oil drained out. I was hoping not to have to crack open the case.
I got sidetracked while reading here, and thought maybe i was on to something about a snubber? on the end of the motor, but i don't have a stock motor, and don't see anything like they mentioned. So I guess i will have to get some gasket goop, and crack open this case. |
