Default 98 DS motor- WHAT IS THIS THING???

I am getting a loud terrible noise in the rear of my cart. I took the motor out,
and i see this clump of something there.

Is it suppose to be there? It is hard like a clump of lead? Do i try to remove or chip it out?

Or is it suppose to be there? This is a 7 HP 48 volt motor.

Check out the pictures

That is there to balance the motor. Like a tire balance weight.

Negative, Ghostrider. That balancing putty is important to keep the armature balanced and not banging around inside the case.

To fix your rear end noise you probably need a motor centering kit AM 10039 as it appears your motor doesn't have the guide ring. Do not use the rubber bumper that comes with the kit...

Thanks guys. I will go with the experts ( you 2 ).

Since my motor is a ge 7 hp motor, will it still use this " centering kit", ( and don't use the rubber part)?

When would you use this rubber part?

Yes

Never. Every time I've used it the motor locked up
