If I could figure out how to make that work, I'd be set!

Wound up using 5 bales of hay (two on each side, and about 1/4-1/2 bale spread out down the middle. Towed, at the heaviest, 3 adults and 6 kids with four adults on the cart, and had zero issues. The event we were at included hundreds of families, and dozens of other people with carts and trailers (plus quads, side-by-sides, and even regular cars and trucks pulling trailers). Where we live the houses are all on acre+ lots so having the cart was pretty much a requirement for Halloween IMO.

Cart all duded up to go (had lights too, but didn't get a photo of it at night).

total run time was about 3 hours, but total miles traveled was only about 5 so it was slow going.

Next year about the only two things I'll change is (1) putting flags on the back of the trailer so I can see where it is, (2) lighting the trailer wheel wells so others can see them (3) have some sort of backup lights on the trailer since it's not wired in to cart (4) move the cooler elsewhere so kids can get on and off both sides.

I've got a gas cart but thought I'd post anyway since this modification isn't gas-specific. I scored an early factory brown plastic Club Car Carryall bed for $75 over the weekend. Need a little TLC but I'm pretty stoked about it:

Cool!
If you didn't show the rear of the cart us sparkies might not of known you are a gasser.

Very nice! That's the original "Carryall" bed from the early 80s. I like it.

I turned the key today. Vanguard fired right up and still sounds mean. (I feel sorry for you sparky guys missing that part.) Turned the stereo on loud to make the neighbors scowl and shake their heads at me. Looked at the box with most of the 2 barrel carb setup and new heads. Wished I had the rest of the parts and the new cam shaft. Thought how much more awesome it will be when it's done in the spring.
