'97 48v CC DS V-Glide(?), 1 drive wheel or 2?
2 questions if you please :)
1. Although I'm reading that only 36v carts are V-Glide I'm also guessing it's not unusual that my 48v cart is V-Glide? From the manual: The DS Electric vehicle is equipped with either a Solid State Speed Controller (PowerDrive System 48 and PowerDrive System 48 with Motor Braking), or a V-Glide Speed Controller (36 Volt Vehicle). 2. Are both rear wheels drive wheels on these, or only one? After installing the HD leaf springs only the RR wheel is spinning, the left rear is not and don't know if it did before. Thanks! |

All carts are one wheel drive with very few (custom) exceptions. This is an open differential. The wheel with the least resistance turns.
The V glide can appear in both 36 and 48v carts. However.... in a 48v cart it has been modified to be a multistep potentiometer. |

Thanks, Scottyb and you may have seen this coming, but as the V-Glide and multistep potentiometer appear the same and seem to work using the same principal, what's the difference between the two?
Thanks again! |

Re: '97 48v CC DS V-Glide(?), 1 drive wheel or 2?
A true V-glide passes high amperage through the wiper arm and onto the contacts, and from there through large cables and resistors then to the motor. The higher up the wipers, the less resistors the current flows through, and the more speed to the motor. A multi step potentiometer was Club Car's own repurposing of the V-glide. It serves as, well... a potentiometer - it gives the controller a 0-5k or 5k-0 (older vs a little newer) ohm reading due to small resistors stepped up the back of the contacts. They are a lot alike, just the V-glide unit passes all the current through it, and the multi step pot signals the controller to "allow" a certain amount of current to the motor. Also, the multi step pot WAS used in 36 volt carts in 93 and 94 only, then all 36 volt carts reverted to V-glides. The early 48 volt carts came with the multi step pot and in the late 90s CC went to a continuously variable pot, which sucked, and they went back to the multi step pot until the advent of the MCOR.
Hope this helps! |

Thank you, 93YCC that was a great explanation.
Which, creates more questions but for where I'm at on my rebuild I'm going to hold off until I get into the mechanical aspect of my project. So I'll likely re-open this thread later unless there's others that want to know more. This is all new to me so little by little I'm getting to know what I have and how it all works. Thanks again! |
