Default How does a brake light switch work?? 2005 CC Pres

I have the switch below. When I press the brakes a small tab goes up into the valley of the switch. Is it magnetic?? Can I test it?

I have 3 wires there: Red +, Black/White and tan. With the switch disconnected, I give the Blk/Wht a ground, then connect the red to the tan and the lights come on.

Any info would be appreciated.

Also any info on the brake relay in the dash. I dont know how many volts should be present at each pole.

thx

I believe if you're getting power to the brake switch wires then the relay is working in the dash. That factory switch costs a fortune by the way. When mine went out I purchased this one from East Coast Custom, a site sponsor.

It's very similar to a Yamaha Golf Cart brake light switch.

I was told that the metal tab crosses past a beam. Breaking the beam turns on the lights.

Are your brake lights still working at this time? Just trying to figure how the switch works?

No they arent. I think the switch is bad and they are expensive. Might switch to an aftermarket...
