push pull light switch wiring
I am trying to install a LED light on a 04 DS. I only need the light on occasion and have installed a 16V to 12 volt reducer with two out put wires. light has two wires + & -, light switch is push pull with two prongs.
How do I wire to the switch, light and reducer. All two wires and male prongs on the switch? Seems simple but can't figure the way to do it. Bob |

Re: push pull light switch wiring
Most of those reducers are wired in the neg voltage line. In that case you would run your pos wire to one side on the lights. I would fuse that wire. Then from the voltage reducer a wire to one side of the switch. Then a wire from the other side of switch to neg for lights. Of course the other end of the reducer would come of the neg battery post. You can use any of your batteries for this as long as they are together in the series. Use volt meter to make sure the voltage of the two batteries is 16 volts. Some one may post a digram of this. I don't know how to post one.

Re: push pull light switch wiring
MrGolf Thanks,
Hopefully I am attaching a pix of the instructions. I have not tried it in case it is wrong and damage reducer and associated electrical components. What do you think? Anyone else chime in with thoughts? |

Re: push pull light switch wiring
That will work if your reducer has those connections. A lot of the 16 to 12 volt reducers only have one input and an output that splits to 2 wires. The kind I'm talking about would be used on the neg wire side, and the pos would go from battery pos to light. Like what you drew except the pos would straight from the battery pos to the light.

Re: push pull light switch wiring
Can you post a picture of the reducer you have?
Like mrgolf said, the way You connect depends on the actual type of reducer You have. Also, fuses are intended to protect the wires, not the devices connected to the wires, so they need to be installed as close as possible to the battery connection. |
