Default Powerdrive 3 Charger Question

Along with my recently purchased 2012 Precedent IQ (production late March 2012), came a Powerdrive 3 charger with a Date Code: 44/07, which I assume is the 44th week of 2007. For a fair up charge, the dealer installed new Trojan T875 batteries at my request. After much reading on this forum, I've begun the suggested break in process for the batteries and want to make sure of a few questions I have about the charger.

1) Assuming it's in good operating condition, is it ok to charge a 2012 Precedent IQ with 2014 batteries, with a 2007 charger?

2) In comparison to my father in law's 2006 Powerdrive 2 that he uses to charge his 2006 DS, my Powerdrive 3 is noticeably louder when charging. When his is charging it is a barely noticeable hum, mine is quite a bit louder. Is a loud charger a sign of a possible issue?

3) After brief 2 - 4 mile drives (which is all I've done thus far in a few weeks of ownership) my charger exhibits what I think to be an abnormal sequence. When I plug in the charger after a drive, it waits 5 - 10 seconds, starts charging (as expected), charges for about 60 seconds, shuts off for about 10 - 30 seconds, and then resumes the charging cycle until complete. Is this ON-OFF-BACK ON sequence normal or a sign of a problem? Haven't been able to find anything on this.

I'm concerned about proper break in for these new batteries so any help on these questions is much appreciated. Thanks!

I too just purchased a CCPrecedent.. It came with the PowerDrive 3 charger also..Mine does the same thing. I assume it's normal. I was told by a technician to plug the charger in even if you just go around the block once if all possible and to make sure the batteries are full of water. Mine came with a watering system so adding water is easy. He also stated to leave it plugged in all the time when you are not using it. The charger is smart charger and will adjust accordingly.

Everything sounds normal. Don't fill batteries up. Just make sure water is above the plates about 1/4 inch. On the watering system, I don't think I would trust it. There have been reports of them causing problems. Besides after paying for new batteries I want to see the water level in each cell. Always use distilled water.

The transformer in the Chargers are uselly what makes the noise. The tighter the plates the less noise.

You will find pros and cons on the watering system here for sure.I have had my pro=fill for a year now. I love it.Every other month or so take off the cap and eyeball the water level in a couple of cells to be safe.

Thanks for all the info. I was most concerned about the "On for 60 seconds-Off for 30 seconds-then back On until complete" sequence my charger has. It just seemed strange to me and I had never read anywhere that that's how they operate.

The OBC in the Precedent will run a self diagnostic (charger will shut off for a few seconds) anytime you charge the cart after it has run. It will also do the diagnostic at one hour and at two hours into the charge cycle.

If you unplug the DC cord from the cart (after a regular charge cycle), wait 20 secs, then plug it back, the OBC will know the cart was not driven and it will run an equalize cycle.

I like to do the equalize cycle once a quarter.

As far as the noise, as long as the amp meter on the charger is going to max at the beginning of the cycle, it is working fine.

I don't think Club Car makes IQ anymore, I think it was phased out around 2010.

They made Precedent IQ in 2012, I believe starting in model year 2013 and UP is Excel only.

Correct... And all late model DS cars were IQ. Never Excel. Up until the death of the DS in the last year.
