Roll away braking
I have a 99 DS regen 2. I took the dynamic brake solenoid off last year. I also unhooked the speed sensor. With the sensor unhooked the roll away braking does not work.
I would like the roll away brake to work but the carts stops very hard with the speed sensor connected. I knew all this when I took the solenoid off. So I have a question I will ask here, hopefully someone has done this before. If I have Plumb Quick do the bandit upgrade on the motor will I be able to hook the speed sensor and not have the real hard motor braking. I think they remove regen braking. I just want to check on this before starting any work. Thanks guys |

I'm not sure about Plum Quick but I once researched a higher performance D&D motor to replace my Regen 1 original - and discovered that all forms of braking (incl hill brake - which I use & need) would be eliminated; so I chose not to do the upgrade.

My DS iq with plumb quick still has the roll away braking. I'm hoping I can do the bandit on my regen 2 and do away with the regen and keep the roll away.

Pretty sure you can't pick and choose which forms of breaking you want with a Regen 2. Now, had it been an IQ, you could keep the roll-away and not have it stop hard

Maybe you could try 2speed, magnet or speedylink first. Also try a seat switch like you have now that would turn the magnet pulses on and off.

If I understand Your question correctly, You want the Roll-Away brake, not the Regen brake to work.
In most models of the PQ motors, aside from any tuning they do to the motor itself, it is the "speed magnet" they use in the motor that allows the cart to go faster. The exception is the Excel system, which I have no idea what they do, perhaps some strategically placed inter-poles in the armature... In Your system, the 2nd solenoid was only used when the OBC did not think the batteries could take a Regen charge, so it basically did a "plug in brake" (main solenoid disengaged and armature windings shorted thru the coil over the 2nd solenoid). That is the only kind of brake that can work when the main solenoid is disengaged (roll-away), but the controller does not know the cart is rolling because of the speed sensor being disconnected. One suggestion would be to make sure the speed sensor is "connected" when the cart is OFF. I think you already have 12v available with the key switch ON, the easiest way to accomplish this is to use a cheap 12v bosch type relay with the relay coil wired to your 12v converter. You can then run the Red wire from the speed sensor thru the NC contacts (Normally Closed) of the relay. When the Key switch is ON, the Relay engages and the Red wire from the speed sensor is disconnected, so it does not work. When the Key switch is OFF, the speed sensor is powered and will detect movement, the controller will then power the motor field coil and plug the armature causing the cart to stop. The only issue is if the cart is stopped with the Key ON, there will be no roll-away brake. I personally like the Regen brake and use it a lot. |

The roll away braking works on my IQ cart with the bandit upgrade.
When the speed sensor is connected on my regen 2 the roll away braking works. I'm thinking it would also work with the bandit upgrade on my regen 2 When parked on a hill I like the ideal of the roll away being there in case the brake lock comes loose. I thought someone may have this set up and could tell me how it worked. |

Same with the switch under the seat, You would hate to go over a bump, bounce off the seat followed by a violent brake action. |
