Motor removal

This might help, pay particular attention to post #5.

And yes, it is fairly normal for the armature to stick to the input shaft of the rear end and the case of the motor to come off.

The blue words Motor removal are a link to a thread about how to remove a stuck armature. Clicking on them will take you there, then you can scroll right down to post #5 in that thread, it is by TahoeDawgZ71.

With the aid of an assistant, lift the rear end up 3 - 4 feet into the air and drop the rear end onto a concrete floor onto the inverted brake drum. The drum is inverted so you don't damage the wheel studs during this process. The motor will fall off as soon as it hits the ground. If it doesn't, try it again. I've never had to drop one more than three times. Don't laugh. Try it and thank me later.

When you put it back together, you can't just shove the armature back into the case. The brushes at the end will have sprung out keeping that from happening, so youll have to take the end cap of the motor off and CAREFULLY take the terminals loose - they pull loose and break easily. You can then retract the brushes, set the armature into the bearing and press/gently tap it in. (interference fit). Then set the case of the motor down over that and put the studs back CAREFULLY and reattach the end cap with its bolts. Hope this helps.
