The DS and Precedent are both great frames, the things to think about are the drive systems. The older ones have inefficient resistor coils, while newer ones have efficient solid state setups.

One other thing about drive systems is that a series cart can be expensive to speed up, while it is easier (less expensive) to add speed to an IQ cart.
