94 CC DS solenoid test
Hi folks,
I picked up a non running 1994 Club Car DS 36v. I've been working on for a couple weeks. Couldn't pass for 200$ with decent batteries and charger. It was in pieces but complete, the previous owner was told the motor was bad and he couldn't get the armature off the shaft so he gave up. I've gotten everything back together correctly and jump tested the motor which is fine. The batteries are charged and solenoid engages but I'm only reading 20v between the main contacts when engaged. Should this be at my full voltage of 38.5? Or do I need to follow a more accurate procedure?

Re: 94 CC DS solenoid test
You should be reading 0 volts with the solenoid engaged. Sounds like a bad solenoid. Does the cart run?

Re: 94 CC DS solenoid test
No It's not running. I'm not sure if I'm overthinking it, if I test from #6 bat. ground to either of the main contacts I show full voltage with no throttle. Wouldn't that mean it's stuck closed? But I still hear it engage with throttle just no dif in voltage. I also have constant full voltage to the controller so shouldn't it run even if the solenoids stuck?
Thanks for your help.

Re: 94 CC DS solenoid test
If you want to check and really see if it is the solenoid this is what you have to do. You need to jumper across the two large terminals on the solenoid. Use one battery jumper cable to do this so that you are able to remove it in a hurry. Also jack up the rear end just in case the cart wants to take off unexpectedly. Good luck and be careful.

Re: 94 CC DS solenoid test
If the resistor is in place you are reading voltage across the resistor when testing solenoid. To bypass test the solenoid simply put both big cables on the same post.

Re: 94 CC DS solenoid test
Thanks guys, I'll try both and let you know in a few.

Re: 94 CC DS solenoid test
I jumped the posts and it works, still doesn't make sense but I'll take a solenoid over the controller! Thanks again you've both been a big help.

Re: 94 CC DS solenoid test
The contacts inside the solenoid are burnt. Just because it clicks doesn't mean it's good.
