07 CC DS IQ Trying to go faster, but just spending more.
Hi,
Just thought I would share my story. Maybe someone has some advice. First the background. I have a 2007 Club Car DS. It runs well. It has a 6" lift, and 12" black chrome wheels, and off road tires. It looks really sharp. When I first bought it, it did 15mph on the GPS. One day I was coming home from the grocery store, and a little punk about 10 years old, saw me pull out and chased me down so he could pull up next to me, throw me deuces, and leave me behind. I called the shop that sold it to me, and they recommended we put in Speed Code 4. That got me up to 19mph. Instead of being the slowest cart in the neighborhood, now I was just in the slowest group of carts. A few months later, my dad called me up and said he wanted to get a cart and asked me what I recommended. I told him I was a fan of 48volt DC Club Cars and I specifically liked the DS. So he went and bought an EZGO RXV AC cart. I warned him up and down that there wasn't a lot of aftermarket for them yet, and few shops worked on the AC carts, and if they did, they charged AC tax for it. Of course his cart has really nice LED headlights, and on the GPS does 26 mph very easily. So I called up a couple of the local golf cart shops. I found a shop that had Alltrax DCX 500 IQs in stock for $565, and 2GA labelled cable sets for <$100. So I headed down to pick that up. When I got there, the guy warned me about a few things to keep in mind while installing it, after which I no longer wanted to attempt it myself. I asked how much it would be for him to install it, and he said $75. I told him I would be a fool not to let him do it, and so I went off to uhaul to rent a trailer and bring him my cart. Of course when he was done, he called me up and said something else was wrong with the cart. He wasn't sure what, but he suspected the M-core. He said he would need another day to diagnose and fix it. I said no problem. The next day he called me up and said the M-core was good, but my motor was shot. It had started to shutter a little about 2 days before I brought him the cart, but I didn't think much of it. The options he gave me, were 1) new stock motor for ~$450, 2) used stock motor for ~$250, 3) aftermarket D&D speed motor ~$500, or 4) aftermarket speed and torque D&D motor $650. He strongly recommended the fourth option since I had hills in my neighborhood, but he warned that it was the most expensive option, and after install and tax and everything else it would be ~$750. I said go big or go home, so we went with his recommendation. When I went to pick up the cart, it had so much torque that it just about lifts the front tires, but the top speed of the cart is still 19mph. He claimed he was getting about 22mph, but I couldn't get more than 19mph. I told him I didn't know how I was going to go home and justify to my wife that the $565 controller was now up to ~$1600 and the cart did the same 19mph it did when I dropped it off. He offered to take everything back off the cart, and I said that wouldn't solve the problem either. He said we could put the high speed motor in the cart, but he seemed very against that because he said I was going to have trouble climbing the hills. I asked him if leaving it like it was and changing gear sets would give me what I was looking for. He didn't seem real confident about that either, but he was in a hurry to go that day, so I am not sure what to do now. The shop is supposed to be ordering me a high speed geat set, and next week when it comes in, they said they would pick my cart up, install the gears and then bring it back to me for something like $300. Be it known that I am not upset with the shop. The service guy is the one that knew that I was looking for 25mph, not the guy who put the controller in. Also, the shop found a few other things wrong with my cart, and just fixed them because they needed it. He aligned the front end, found a steering bolt that was broken (thank god he found it before it broke while driving it around), tested the M-core, and did a battery test. When he saw I wasn't happy he offered to take it all back out. He seemed reasonable about it all, but a little rushed since I kind of talked him into doing it that day, when I really should have let him do it the next day. I also didn't want to lose my regenerative braking, or the function that makes it slow the cart down to the programmed speed when going down hill, but those seem to be gone with the new motor and controller. Any suggestions? Should I put a different motor in, or should I change gears, or should I just trade the darn thing in on an AC drive RXV? Thanks, Josh |

He also found some bearings that needed to be replaced, and he is trying to make this right by me. I just need to figure out what the right course of action is.

I see you are from Augusta GA. You didn't happen to bring the cart to TSA and deal with David Hicks, did you. He is the service manager at TSA in Augusta. He is a member here (TahoeDawgZ71) and he knows what he is talking about

Something was already wrong with your cart, speed code 4 would give you 19mph on stock tires. You did not mention the tire size, but since the cart is lifted 6", I assume bigger tires.
You should get approximately 23mph with 22" tires and 24mph with 23" tires on code 4, assuming everything else in the cart would allow it. The older "non auto ranging throttle" Alltrax like the one You got is very sensitive to the proper throttle signal of 5kΩ-0. As you may know, that is not the resistance range of an MCOR. You should ask the technician if they verified You are getting 100% throttle. They would have to hook up a laptop to the controller and run the monitor program. They also need the correct MCOR throttle map file installed in the controller. Also, verify they loaded the appropriate Motor Field Map for the new motor into the controller. If everything else is OK, I would take a voltage reading while driving at full throttle to make sure the battery pack is not dropping to a range where the motor cannot develop the required speed. |

LOL - CCFanatic is one of the best and most efficient at researching that I've ever seen. He is constantly coming behind me when I say "I couldnt find this on BGW" and promptly pointing me right to it. If I had only 1/2 of his researching skills I would be happy.
