Default Do I have a ds or iq system?

Hey guys. I have a 97 CC that was given to me. I'm having to change the batteries as the old ones were dry to the bone when I got the car. The car has a round charger which I believe is 48v volt system. But it also have the rocker switch for the fnr. So do I have an iq or is it just and old ds car? If you can't tell I'm a total newbie to golf carts.

Also the previous owner had 4-8v batteries and 2-6v batteries in it. Would that do anything bad to the system?

Thanks in advance guys.

If it is really a '97 (post the serial number so we'll know for sure) with a rocker switch; then you have likely gotten a Regen 2 cart (not IQ which came later). DS refers only to a body style and does not describe the drive type. Does it have a run/tow switch under the seat?

Sounds like a Regen car. Like joesam said, they're all DS carts, that's the body style. He only had 44v in there, shouldn't have caused any problems, but it's certainly not what should be in there...
The serial number would help, it's below the dash near the GO pedal.

I didn't notice a tow switch under the seat. The guy that had it previously did mention it ran slow. I guess only having 44v would do that?

Ok it is indeed a 97. Can you snap a pic of under the seat. And yes only running on 44v would certainly cause it to run slow...

OK - if there is really no tow switch its a Regen 1. To confirm - check the frame up under and behind the passenger seat. Mounted upside down will be the speed controller. If its Black - its Regen 1 (for sure) - if its Silver it could be either a replacement controller for Regen 1 or a Regen 2 (although Regen 2 *always* had a tow switch as far as I know). That picture is a little bit wrong - it indicates a tow switch on Regen 1...but trust me....there isn't one. Also I never noticed before - at the bottom it says "Powder Drive"....sure hope its not BLACK POWDER!

The easiest way to tell for sure requires charged batteries. On Regen 1 (only) when you turn on the switch - you will hear a distinct "click"....then without touching anything or moving, within 10 to 30 seconds you will hear that same click again.

Looks like these guys have you covered. One thing about the early REGEN 1/REGEN 2 carts is that there is next to nothing for any kind of upgrades. In fact, if it is a REGEN 1 with the black controller, it is only a matter of time until the controller goes out, and you can't get the replacement controller anymore. I think Joesam is the only one with good things to day about REGEN 1 carts. Not trying to steer you away, Club Cars are great carts. Throw 6 8v batteries in there and you will be rolling

So what's the difference between regeneration 1 and 2?
