Default Cable Length - Do-It-Yourself Cables

I am looking at picking up some 4 or 2 gauge welding wire and mocking up my own cables. I'm sure people here have done this before, but I couldn't find a post here with an estimate on how much cable is needed. My cart is kept at a weekend house... otherwise I'd measure myself.

Anyone have any estimates on how many feet it would take to make a set of cables for teh batteries and the motor/controller?

Thanks in advance.

Hawgs,

It's your lucky day!!! I just finished measuring all the cables for my 1996 DS.. I came up with 29' of cable.. This is all of the battery cables, and the motor/controller cables..

I found a place online that has pretty good prices on 4 ga. cable..

#4 is good for all but the most extreeme builds.......and $1 ft is a great price on welding cable these days....Runs as high as $2.60. Don't forget to shop around for some copper ends and solder.

Glad to help!!

You'll need lugs to fit 5/16"(batteries,controller), 3/8"(solenoid, F&R switch), 1/4"(F&R switch).. West Marine will have the tinned copper cable lugs..

I'm fixin' to place an order for the cable next week, will hit West Marine for the lugs and shrink wrap.. I have a crimpace for making up the cable ends, drop me a PM if ya want to come by to use it..

Catch ya later..

Yeah, I wasn't planning on doing it before Thanksgiving... too busy. I'm not in a huge hurry to do it.
