Need a new Controller, Upgrade or Stock?

We've pretty came to the conclusion that my "NO FORWARD" problem with my cart (2002 AQ0236) is a faulty controller. Now my questions are should I just replace with a new/used stock controller or now would be the time to upgrade.

Current controller is a Curtis Model#1510-5201 48V, 250A

Also if I were to upgrade do I need to upgrade anything else (motor, solenoid, cables etc)?

What would you guys suggest as a good, affordable upgrade? Cart is used as at our seasonal trailer park (some hills), sometimes I pull the kids around in our utility trailer and do run it a little hard on occasion.

To give you a better idea, this is what i'm working with. Bought it used like the way it sits now.



Again, i'm not looking to spend tons (although I know what this can turn into)

That is a beautiful cart. Generally speaking, the rear seat allows for double the original load plus the seat kit itself weighs 100 #s = potentially 500 #s added weight. And the 22" tires are about a 25% increase in rear end gear ratio which means the motor has to work 25% harder just to roll the cart before you double the load.
The changes you have made to the cart bring the motors amperage demands above what the stock control can sustain. Hence the burn out. Stock replacement is not recommended. Use pkg #808IQ = 400a control and 200a solenoid with 4g cables through out and enjoy some new found torque.

Thanks, I figured I wouldn't get a way with replacing with a stock controller, lol. I bought the cart like it is now but I guess all upgrades we're cosmetic. It was an older gentlemen I got it from so i'm sure he really was too hard on it. I guess it would be kinda of a waste of a nice cart to just put another stock controller in it.

What kinda $$$ i'm I looking at for a controller, solenoid and new heavy gauge wires?

What controller do you guys recommend and where to order? Do you guys know of any places in Canada to order from to save on shipping and brokerage fee's?

So, I DON'T need to upgrade motor when replacing with a higher amp controller?

By getting better torque, does it give some other weak spots in the drivetrain?

Winter sale going on now at cartsunlimited.net. If your terrain is flat you could go with controller pkg 484 for $419 including 460a SPM control & HD 200a solenoid. HD F&R and 4g cable set will cost about $399

If your reasonable with the cart the motor and stock rear hubs will hold up well. If you are rough on stuff you may need to upgrade both of these items soon.

I'd say our park has moderate terrain but does have some hilly areas. Would this kit still be good or would one step up be better ( but really don't want to have to upgrade motor as well).

Are these pretty much plug and play? I have a heating and cooling business so do have some electrical/schematic knowledge.

So it runs about $419 and another $400 for cables?

A 13 pc 4g cable set is $199
A HD F&R is $169
I believe that is $368 but I'll take $400 for cables if you're offering - LOL

Seriously - Yes, these controller pkgs with solenoid are plug and play type installations. I send complete written and illustrated instruction. THe cables come # tagged with a picture diagram showing where each # cable goes. It doesn't get any easier than this unless I come to your house and put it on for you.

Sorry, just another question. A little confused on the HD F & R switch, is this just the toggle switch to go from forward to revsere that would need to be replaced to handle the higher load?

No, if you have the toggle F-R, there is no need to upgrade. Scotty is talking about Series carts with a F-R lever

Thanks, I was a little confused on that since there is just little thin wires going to the toggle F & R.

Oh, should probably double check what upgrade controller to get to make sure then. Looks like the Pkg #484 is for series carts. Would I then need the Pkg #808IQ then or ????
