New 12V battery's

I'm need new battery's for my 2006 precedent. Use the cart around the neighborhood and for hunting. Been looking at the conversion to 6-8v battery set up. The cost is kinda high $1,250 for conversion kit, tub, and battery's. Been reading that the new 12v golf cart battery's are a lot better then they use to be. Is they any truth to this? Any help would be great
