Battery De-Mister
I have just installed six new 8 volt Trojan T185 batteries in January 2015. The original Trojan batteries were manufactured in 2008 for my 2009 Club Car Precedent, which I received last April 2014. Six years of service is all that I could hope for as long as I maintain these batteries the same. However I reviewed a product called DE-mister that is an oil additive that floats on top of the electrolyte and appears, from viewing their video demonstration, to eliminate the gassing off process experienced during charging. This should greatly reduce the cause of corrosion of my new 4 gauge wires install with the batteries. When I purchased my new batteries I was asked if I intended to change the cables, when I said yes she told me that I had an 18 month warranty on the batteries.
Here is the web site http://www.thermoil.com/ Please watch the video and let me know what you think. Has anyone had experience with this product? I think it contains some very good instruction for cart battery newbie's also. |

Re: Battery De-Mister
It "seems" like it may work, BUT...
I, personally would rather maintain my new batteries normally on a regular basis, rather then adding a snake oil product to cover my neglect or laziness! AND... the warranty on the batteries may become void if you add something to them! (I'd prefer to replace the cables again and again, rather than replacing the batteries sooner then they need to be!) Re: Battery De-Mister
These are some of my concerns also, but I just hate the acid and water mist that boils out on top of the batteries. Also I'm not convinced that the oil would release from the plates if you ever let the level fall that low. If it were a proven additive I would think golf cart shops and electric vehicle retail company's would be using and recommending the product.
I was sure that there would be members who had first hand knowledge. |

Re: Battery De-Mister
I really don't have a problem with my batteries misting. I just keep the water above the plates and below the filler neck. I check them every month no mater how much I use the cart. For example I have played 23 rounds of golf this year. I have not needed water in these batteries yet. 1-12-2015 new. My other batteries went to my 1999 cart. They were 4-2014 batteries. The new ones always go in the cart I am using, I'm paying for them.

Re: Battery Life Saver test
Reading the last few posts of this thread is the first time I have ever heard of putting oil on top of the water in a battery. It kind of makes sense to prevent evaporation.
I then asked myself what is so special about their brand of oil. From the quick googling that I did, I'm guessing not much. I compared their MSDS to MIL-5606. http://www.thermoil.com/wp-content/u..._de-mister.pdf http://qclubricants.com/msds/ROYCO756.pdf 5606 is a mineral based hydraulic fluid that is commonly used in aircraft hydraulic systems, and landing gear struts. It's also compatible with a large range of hydraulic systems such as tractors, heavy equipment, log splitters, snow plows, and a host of others. It maintains its properties through an extreme range of temperatures. I would have to do more research, but it looks like there are cheaper alternatives to what they are selling. |

Re: Battery De-Mister
The gassing is a result of the charge cycle. It cannot be suppressed with a layer of snake oil.
