94 club car DS 36V coil system vglide sparking
Hello all, I'm a golf cart mechanic and have been for a few years now, I've learned pretty much all the ins and outs of these things, and can fix anything that comes my way but I have one that is throwing me off here. I have a 36V vglide coil system. The cart runs fine but as the vglide wiper crosses each copper plate it slightly sparks, and only pressing the go pedal for maybe 5 seconds make the last two resistor coils incredibly hot. Hot enough to melt the resistor board. Its a brand new vglide assembly and a brand new board. Any ideas what causes this????

Only 2 ways that can happen:
1) Vglide is miss wired and the last pad is not sending power directly to motor. 2) Wiper arm is mis adjusted and stops 2 pads short of full travel. |

I checked wiring with a schematic, it's correct. Also the wiper arm is making full contact, all the way to the last pad that has a wire connected to it.

So you are saying the wire color connected to the last pad goes to the end of the resistor board where the wire that goes to the motor is also connected?

Yes. The last pad the wiper reaches is also the last wire on the resistor board. With motor wire connected to it.

When you said "pressing the go pedal for maybe 5 seconds", is that full throttle?

One last thing, the thicker gauge with less turns coils are the higher speed ones, they are near the motor connection.

Re: 94 club car DS 36V coil system vglide sparking
if the black and green cables are switched coming from V-glide then you will be running through the last 2 coils at full throttle
also check alinement of wiper pad Last edited by crash test dummy; 02-17-2015 at 04:10 PM.. Reason: added photos |
