battery cable corrosion
The positive cable going to the battery pack keeps getting corrosion on it. I keep the batteries clean and keep them coated with the red spray on battery protection. I don't understand why it keeps corroding

Re: battery cable corrosion
Try changing that cable end. The cable can be bad under the end and run a few inches up inside the cable. If so you can clean the outside and it will still come back.

Re: battery cable corrosion
Is the connection making good contact to the battery? You want to make sure you're getting the most clean connection from the terminal to the battery post, not just on the outside of the terminal.

Re: battery cable corrosion
Not sure how old your batteries are - when my Trojans were in their ELEVENTH year (AKA last legs) I was cleaning corrosion/buildup on the positive connection monthly. Hadn't happened until about year 10. With my new pack running all last year....none. Might just be a sign of aging/bubbling because bringing old batteries to charger cutoff takes longer with more gassing.

Re: battery cable corrosion
Batteries are just now two years old. My original (6ga.) pos cable did the same thing and eventually broke. Now my new 2 ga. pos cable is doing it also. I have removed the cable and wire brushed the terminal and the cable and then reapplied the protective spray and now the corrosion is back Also I have rotated the batteries (figured that was just good maintenance anyway)

Re: battery cable corrosion
Did you replace all of your cables? Are the ends tinned? Do you charge with the seat down?

Re: battery cable corrosion
I agree with Mrgolf. Corrosion could be growing from inside the cable? Is the cable lug completely protected from acidic vapors? Adhesive lined heat shrink used and coating on all surfaces before and after installing?

Re: battery cable corrosion
I did replace all the cables. They have shrink tubing on the ends, so I don't know if they are tinned. Yes, I do charge with the seat down. Why would that matter? Gasses?

Re: battery cable corrosion
Since that is the battery the charger receptacle connects to, make sure the big lug is on the bottom and the smaller 10ga charger wire is on the top.

Re: battery cable corrosion
It's best to use clear shrink on the ends so you can see what's going on. The black shrink looks nice but hides corrosion buildup. Try use silver colored ring terminals instead of pure copper. Over charging can cause corrosion also.
