A generalized question

I have a 97 CC DS [SERIES motor] with 6x8volt trojans, less than a year old. I can get an average high speed of 20-23mph. Not complaining.

Question(s):

Can I feel comfortable driving 8+ miles to my son's home, visiting a while and then driving back, without draining the batteries below safety standards? I drive the car flat out, pedal down most of the way.

Generally, which will get the most distance on a charge, Series or Regen?

that would be pushing the range of the batteries .. if you took your charger with you and plugged in for 2+ hours you could make it

Actually, he has the same charger in his garage as mine. I can charge it while there. Was just wondering if the old cart with a series motor would make the round trip. I've been told that those batteries should get me 20 miles. I prefer to err on safe side, so I don't have to walk. Of course, he is getting a new gaser delivered next Tue, so he could tow me if necessary. I always keep a tow rope in the ole glove compartment. They still call them "glove compartments" don't they?

Once up to speed on a flat surface you use less battery power cruising at any speed including full speed. Look up the field map curve for a series DC motor.

You have to try it and see. Charge your cart and make the run one way. Take battery voltage readings and see what the SOC is. If it's too low to get you back and be at 50% then you need to charge. 12 miles is about 2 rounds of golf. Speed and grade are factors that affect the range a lot.

You should make it without issues. As long as it's flat.
