switch or relay?
97' CC DS series, one year old batteries.
I backed out of the garage today and when I moved the lever into "Forward" all I got was a "click." I put it in reverse again and it moved backward, as it was supposed to. I put it back in forward and was rewarded with a "click." Looking under the seat, I could discern NO loose wires, when I jiggled some of them. I got back in and it moved forward as it was supposed to. I drove it a couple miles, and parked it. I came back about an hour later, and it started and moved fine. From that little bit of info, can I get an opinion as to whether I should replace the F&R switch or the relay? Thanks |

Re: swith or relay?
Since pulling on the wires fixed the problem, look at the 3 terminal micro switch used for 1/2 speed reverse:
http://www.golfcartking.com/Club-Car...itch-p/733.htm There is a small resistor in the harness near the micro switch, where it splits into Green, White and Black wires. Either the switch or a bad connection on that split could cause the problem described. |

Re: switch or relay?
Apparently, when I searched for '97 CC DS, I came up with a different type of F&R switch than I have on mine. The one that I have must be upgraded, since the parts are the same as the '99 and later. Now that I think about it, I have noticed that my backup buzzer only works intermittently. Maybe that is also related? At any rate, I have ordered all three micro switches. If I am going to replace one, I figure I might as well replace all three while I have it apart. Here's some photos, of my wiring. I couldn't find an exact replacement for the first switch. The one I ended up purchasing is supposed to be the right one, but the three wires are hard wired to the switch. Sorry about the quality of the photos. They were taken with an old clam shell type phone and in a dark garage.

Re: switch or relay?
Well, I received one of the micro switches (F&R Limit Switch) today, and par for the course, it was not what I ordered. The three wires had no connectors on their ends and no resister on the red wire. So, I have contacted the distributor to see about solving this situation. Kind of funny that this is twice in one week that I received an incorrect order. Yesterday, I received an order for a front auto grill, and the one that was sent was not even of the same brand car. When I contacted the seller, I was asked if I could make it work. It was twenty inches longer than the one I ordered, let alone totally designed different. They refunded my money and told me not to bother shipping it back. Must be a heck of a mark up if shipping cost more than the item.

Re: switch or relay?
Sergio said the resistor was NEAR the switch. If you open the plastic conduit the wires run into you should find it. The resistor wouldn't come with the switch.
The hardwired s/w you have will work, but you may need to put on different connectors. In the future, you should be able to get these switches locally. They are common to many makes, models and years of carts. About 5 bucks at any cart dealer that does repairs. . |

Re: switch or relay?
My switch has a blue, black and red wire. The red wire dead ends without being connected. It is either just a dead end wire or it has a resister on the end. The black and blue wires have connectors that slip onto the connectors coming from the cart's wiring harness (?). Even though I can conceivably make the blue and black wires work by adding the missing connectors, I am not sure of the dead end red wire going to the switch. On mine that is currently in the car, the red leaves the switch and dead ends at what I have been told is a small resister. Maybe not, maybe it's just sealed off at the end. At any rate, the switch that I ordered was supposed to have the connectors on it.

Re: switch or relay?
The red wire is not used. It has no function. Carry on without it
I will attach my HD F&R wiring instruction for you to use. |

Re: switch or relay?
You are looking at the switches wrong.
The one with one wire not connected to anything (middle one or #2) is the one for the reverse buzzer. The microswitch that has the 1/2 speed reverse resistor in the harness is #3 This diagram should give you a good view of the switches and how they are connected. http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/attac...car_ds_48v.jpg Edit: Just noticed ScottyB beat me to the posting. |
