Default Explain programable Controller advantages?! Thanks.

I have a 2002 CC DS 48v series cart. I'm looking to upgrade my stock controller to 400-600 amp GE or Altrax controller. I just don't understand the exact advantages of the programmable controller vs the non programmable to justify the extra cost.

They're better because you can fine tune how you want the cart to drive. Throttle response, acceleration, regen braking, etc.

Mine is a series so no regen braking, so basically you can set more torque /less speed or vice versa?

FWIW, the GE controllers are manually adjustable with small tuning screws on the side. The Alltrax controllers are laptop tunable controllers. Both are really good. Alltrax makes some controllers which are not programmable, but IMO you want that "tunability."

You can adjust max amperage output to set torque levels, and play with throttle up/down rates to suit your driving needs, plus a whole bunch of other cool stuff in the Alltrax menus. Remember with a series cart, in basic terms, amps = torque and volts = speed.

There are 2 adjustments on the FSIP GE type controls we sell. The first is current output. This is a limit adjustment from 50-100% of the controllers capacity. A 500 amp controller can be limited from 250a to 500a much the same as the programmable control. Second is the throttle up or ramp rate adjustment. It can be adjusted between about .5 sec to 2 seconds. Very similar to the programmable throttle adjustment in a PC program.
Those 2 adjustments will give you the basic adjustments you may need to customize your performance to fit your needs.
Generally speaking, 90% of all adjustable controls are running on factory default settings because - the manufacture sets the control up for what works best for most people... makes sense, right.
There are a few additional things you can tweak in the computer type program. They are fun but not essential to max performance. Remember 100% is still 100% no matter how quick you get there. I hope this helps

In my opinion the biggest reason for a programmable controller is so you will be able to match your motor to your controller or visa versa. The field maps are different.
