Default DS Voltage Increase

Hey Guys. I think its about time for me to replace the batteries in our Club Car. I was wondering if I could get a little more umphhh out of the cart by adding another battery or two without having to modify a bunch of stuff.

The cart is a 48V DS (6x8v) with a Plum Quick motor and stock controller. I have the stock club car charger and OBC stuff. I'm running normal sized tires on it as well.

Is this doable with the equipment I have? If not, what all would need to be changed?

It's risky. The stock control may or may not handle additional voltage. Most aftermarket controls will handle a small increase such as 7/8v but charging evenly is a problem. You may want to look at other options for more speed.

I see you have a DS IQ. I wouldn't advise increasing voltage on the IQ system at all. The controller can't handle it. If you're interested in creating a monster it's going to cost some money. Scottyb and I have been working together on a plug and play series conversion kit for the IQ DS and Precedent vehicles. You can get information from either one of us.

Thanks guys. I figured it would be a stretch to get that to happen with this IQ cart. It seems to only like exactly what it was designed for. Which is understandable for reliability and economy.

Quick question then. What battery do you guys recommend for this cart?

Even if the controller can handle it, the stock charger can not. It won't fully charge the pack if there is an extra 8 volt battery in there.

Are you asking about 12 or 8v batteries?

Trojan and Crown are my top picks..... US Battery, Exide, and Interstate are my 2nd picks......... JCI, Duracell, Napa, Energizer are my least favorite option.

Tahoe. You sell the Trojan or Crowns? How much for a set of 6? I have Exides at the moment. They have done pretty good I'd say despite the cart boys filling them with garden hose water for a year and a half before I bought the cart. I've had it about two years since and they are still working but are on their last leg.
