OBC:How many cables?

I'm about to install new Trojans and 4 gauge wiring. There's a small wire running thru the OBC along with the original 6 gauge cable. Should it be there? It goes over to the controller.

I think it's the ground for my electric heater that was installed with the cart new.

There should be only 1 cable on the pack negative battery post, and that cable needs to go through the OBC to the controller B-.

You need to build a stud using a 5/16" 3-1/2" brass bolt through the OBC and 2 cables (1 for each side) to complete the connection from pack negative to controller B-.

If You are going to terminate the cables yourself and the cable fits through the opening, You can terminate the cable after you run it through the OBC.

Do not force the cable or you can damage the OBC.

You should also use heat shrinking tube or a few turns of electric tape in the exposed threads that go inside the OBC.

It is not for any electrical reasons, but it will keep the bold from acting as a metal file with vibration.

I was thinking about what he said he had - an additional ground wire for electric heater running through the obc in addition to his main (-) B- cable.
I think it might have been a good idea (so long as the OBC was not damaged in the install) because this way the OBC could track and log the potentially high amp draw from the heater and calculate that into it's recharge database.

Thanks guys, it was a ground for the heater which is coming out.

You are right about the OBC needing to take that current into consideration, but if there is a single cable from pack negative to the controller B-, all current will have to flow through that cable anyway.

The bullet connector off B- or directly to B- is the best way to make sure all pack current discharge is accounted for by the OBC.

Actually running a discharge cable (heater) that way will have the opposite effect since only charge current should flow from B- to pack negative.
