Replace Jakes with All Sports A-Arm
I have a Jakes kit on my 06 and am thinking about replacing it with an All Sports kit. The Jakes has been fine for lift and ride but I have never been able to get my front end adjusted correctly. I'm sort of doing a cart makeover anyway where I'm removing the body and having a wrap put on it and painting the top, possibly replacing the rear seat and all new upholstery.
I saw TahoeDawg's sticky on the rear brake cable with the All Sports lift kit. If I already have a 6" lift with no brake cable issues, should I have an issue with the AS kit? Or would I even need to do anything with the rear if it's already lifted and I could just put the AS kit on the front? Thoughts? |

If it's not broke don't fix it. I would just do the front of the cart. All the rear lift kits I've seen are practically the same. Some have U bolts and some just have straight bolts.

Re: Replace Jakes with All Sports A-Arm
The only reasons I would swap out the rear is if the front end ends up not level with the rear because of differences between the two kits. Or, because there is nothing wrong with the Jakes kit and I could sell it or even put it on my 07 if/when I decide I want it lifted.

As long as you are swapping lift kits with the same lift height. You shouldn't have a problem with it. Just make sure your new lift is the same size as the old one.

I wouldn't mess with the rear if you don't have problems. Consider yourself lucky though. You're one of very few without issues.

I don't see how you can not adjust the front alignment, seems like you could have the same issue with the other, unless you have the spindle lift and not the Jakes a-arm lift?

Re: Replace Jakes with All Sports A-Arm
Bingo - I have the spindle lift and I also didn't tell the whole story. I got everything fairly well adjusted after I installed the lift kit but then I was riding beside a fence and one of the posts jumped right out in front of my front wheel and caught it and messed the alignment all up. I don't think anything got bent but I have struggled to get it back exactly right ever since.

Re: Replace Jakes with All Sports A-Arm
IF your going with an All Sports... consider getting the Super Sport lift for a few extra $,
and change the rear lift with the 4 U-bolt setup that it comes with! 012.JPG my .02 |

Re: Replace Jakes with All Sports A-Arm
On a related note: (speaking of bumping into things)
A couple years ago, I was cruising my campground, and there are speed bumps here and there, because people with carts don't like running over the speed bumps, they go off in the grass to the side of them, the campground put boulders on either side so carts have to go over the speed bumps! Here's where the "related" comes in! I have a Jake's 3" spindle lift on mine... a cart was coming toward me as we were both coming to the same speed bump, (the path is wide enough for 1 cart) I decided to be nice and go around the boulder, and let them pass over the bump, and of coarse, I was waving, and saying hi... sure enough, I ran my drivers side tire straight into the boulder, I heard a "crack" and just knew I messed something up! When looking closer at it, the drivers side tire is pushed back about 1" compared to the passenger side! I tried to see if I could straighten it, but to no avail! So now I have a new 3 1/2" a arm lift ready to put on! Just goes to show... stuff happens! |
