Default Precedent seats - recovering without staple ons?

I've seen the staple on kits for recovering the seats but the exposed staples on the back of the seat back are something I'd like to avoid. Is there a way to re-upholster just the cushions? I'm not seeing an obvious way to remove the cushions from the frames to do such a thing. Would I have to take it to an upholsterer?

I just put some staple on covers on my precedent. I got them from customqualitycovers.com real cheap and surprisingly the quality is great. After installing the one for the front seat back I installed some hydem welt over the staples to hide them. It worked very well. I found it on eBay.

Thanks. I am going to install a new rear seat kit with a seat back that is more parallel to the front seat back and the staples should be that visible. I can also cover with something, great idea.

Well, sorry I can't help by eliminating the “staple on”, however, here's what I did to recover my front seat bottom for my 2008 1/2...

My seat cushion was glued to the plastic seat tray. I believe they have since changed that design.

Bought a replacement seat bottom cover. Removed the front seat bottom and VERY carefully, cut the vinyl away from the plastic tray. Used a exacto knife in addition to a very sharp razor knife and took my time. The glue residue was a pain to remove but I simply kept cutting and scraping it away with the razor knife and putty knife. Once it was satisfactorily cleaned, I traced a paper template to fit the interior dimension of the plastic tray. I then cut out the template and taped it onto a piece of 1/2” thick PVC (don't like plywood as it can rot). Took a jigsaw and cut out the shape and made sure it fit into the plastic seat tray. I laid the replacement seat cover in the sun to allow it to soften, making it easier to stretch. I then took the seat cover and placed it upside down and placed the seat cushion over top of it. I placed the replacement PVC base on top of the inverted cushion and taped (as best as I could...) it in place. I checked and double checked the layout of the cover as once I started stapling I was not going to be able to go back and readjust the position of the cover. I began stapling in the middle of the front and then the middle of the rear of the cover, working my way out to the ends of each side of the cushion. Once out to the ends of the cushion, I then worked on stretching and stapling the ends and lastly the corners. The corners were a bit of a pain and that"s where I encountered most of my problems. A lot of patience (and cursing...) and this is the result. Finally, I secured the new seat base to the plastic seat tray with a number of stainless steel screws (to avoid rusting and corrosion from the batteries) and this is the final result. Not perfect but certainly better, I think, than what I started with...

Hope this helps...!!!
