Default Difference in chargers ?

I have a 2008 1/2 Precedent with a Powerdrive 3 charger. I'm now purchasing a 2004 Precedent with a Powerdrive 2 charger. Can anyone explain the difference between the Powerdrive 2 and Powerdrive 3 chargers...??? Is one compatible with the other...??? Is one better (or worse...) than the other...???

Thanks in advance...

They are the pretty much the exact same chargers, just "updated" versions. They are all compatible with each other

Did a little searching and found this.....

Powerdrive 2 and 3 = built with silicone rectifiers also built with less copper and lower output amps (slower charge time)

the chargers are specifically tested and matched to go with your on board computer in your cart.

short answer is yes they will work in any 48 volt cart, but for best charging performance they should be hooked to the cart they go to.

Also this.....

if you are charging 6- 8 volts use the powerdrive or powerdrive2

if charging 4 - 12 volt (precedent ) use powerdrive 3.

Found it here..... http://server1.buggiesunlimited.com/...p?f=11&t=51616

Well..."that"...is interesting...!!!

Both carts have (4) 12v batteries. The '04 came with the PD2 and the '08 came with the PD3. I plan on keeping the (4) 12v in the '04 and replacing the batteries on the '08 with (6) 8v batteries. Based on these comments, I'll probably use the PD3 on the '04 and the PD2 on the '08...

Thanks for the prompt responses...!!!

chargers don't know how many batteries it's charging... just the volts it needs to supply

The charging algorithm differences exist in the OBC software version, not the PowerDrive "power supply" box.

The PowerDrive3 has a better surge suppression for the relay and additional circuitry that when used with a newer version of the OBC, will cause the warning light to blink if the relay voltage suppression has failed.

I would definitely use the PowerDrive3 with the newer precedent.

They will both perform the same, but the newer OBC will be able to take advantage of the Powerdrive3 safety feature.

Whichever one is the closest is the one I would use....... They're all compatible with each other. Sergio brings up a good point, but as far as charging is concerned, they all do the job and do it well.
