The key question is how long will you be gone? If the time frame is a month or more I would suggest a HDuty appliance timer that could be set to turn your charger on once a week for a 12 hour period to allow the charger to go through it's complete cycle...that setting could be stretched to every two weeks also. Because a Club Car has an OBC ( on board computer ) the OBC sets the length of time needed for charging based on useage and battery voltage at the time of charge...so with zero usage the length of charge should be fairly short and therefore very limited water use. If this is not the direction you choose to go then disconnect the negative battery cable...that should be on the driver's side rear battery...a black cable and that is all that needs to be done. Remember that once that cable is disconnected and there is no current flow from the charger the batteries start to sulfate and if you are a Snowbird...6 months is long enough to shorten the life of your battery pack and that is why I recommend the timer method.

If you leave your cart for months at a time, a battery maintainer is the way to go. It will pay for itself quickly in longer battery life.

Turning the charger on with a timer will not make the charger come on. You have to unhook and hook the charge cable not the AC power.

Go with Sav-A- Battery maintainer. Puts out 48v @2amps. Can leave it plugged in for weeks at a time without issue. If power goes out it will start up when power returns. Checkout a thread by Olman. Keeps my pack @53+ volts for weeks at a time. Worth every penny. Shop around though ,prices vary.

When storing my old 48V DS for the winter here in Wisconsin, (5 to 6 months)
  • Run/Tow switch to Tow
  • Charge until charger shuts off
  • Unplug charger from cart, and wait 10 minutes
  • Replug charger into the cart
  • Wait for the charger to shut off again, and unplug charger
  • and then disconnect the main positive, and main negative cables from the group.
(and leave all the other "in-between" cables connected!)
IF... you have an additional wires on the main posts, (voltage reducer, etc.) disconnect them also!

On your Precedent, you'd disconnect cables #1 and #2 in the right pic!

No way will I put a maintainer on my cart ever again. When I got back to Palm Springs after being gone for 5 months my batteries were totally dry and I filled them before I left. Batteries were 1 year old and I had to add distilled water and charge 3 batteries for 2 hours each before my golf cart charger would kick on and finish charging the group of batteries

Don't trash it! I'm sure someone here at BGW would buy it from you!

And just so you know... (if you didn't already)
The batteries have a self-discharge rate, during the cold winter months here, the rate is much slower!
In the desert heat... (I used to go to the Indio for weekend getaways, and it gets HOT!) they may self-discharge at a faster rate!
so don't be upset if you have to manually charge them when you get back to PS!
