Painting the resistor coil?

Been working on painting my cart and noticed the resistor is rusted. I was wondering is it possible to sand and paint the resistor minus the part were it connects to the resistor board to give it a good connection. Thanks for the help.....

Also, out of the 6 standoff bolts one broke in two. Bad rust and I priced one and each bolt is a little over 20 bucks each. Has anyone made there own or know of a place to get them cheaper.

I'd imagine that you could use the VHT header paint or similar found at most auto parts stores to paint the coils. Regular paint wouldn't last too long, the coils get HOT.

As for standoff bolts, using jam nuts to sandwich it in place on the board instead of the square shank on the standoff I don't see why you couldn't make your own. You could bend lips up on the edges of a washer to hold the coils also, just like the raised edges on a standoff bolt.

That's what I was thinking too, put a washer in my vise and bend it till it looks like it will hold the coils tightly in place. Dang, it never dawned on my about them getting hot... thanks for the heads up on that one.

You could use stove black on them. It might smell at first but it will hold up pretty good.

I wouldn't paint them they get red hot at times, and they might catch on fire

I just can't believe how expensive those coil resistors springs are along with those bolts. WOW!!!

I'm thinking about using rust reformer spray on my resistor coils. There are several brands here is a link to Rustoleum's:

It says it's flat black but from what I understand it isn't really a paint when applied to Rusty surfaces. It has a chemical reaction with the rust that stops the oxidation process.

No paint will stand up the heat period.
They get hotter than a dragsters header.
