2007 club car precedent charger

Hi All
Sorry for the type-o, I actually have a 2007 CC Precedent with a powerdrive 1 charger. i put the cart in the garage for winter in mid november, pluged it up and got it out yesterday and its dead!. the charger will not come when i unplug and replug. the headlights will not come on so i believe the batteries are dead. its only 2 years old so i know the batteries are still good but wondering if the charger stopped working over the winter. we did loose power one day for about 3 hours due to a snow storm so i wonder if the recepticle i had the charger plugged into tripped and now the batteries are to low for the charger to come on. I did read that they must be at least 36v for the charger to come on to charge, is this the case? If so should i open the batteries and check the fluids, charge them if needed and then try the charger again? Would this be a good order to start with?

I'm no expert but from what I have read here, If the power goes out the charger will not restart when the power returns. You have to remove the plug from the cart and replug to get the charger to start the cycle over again. For long period of in activity I would use something like a SAV-A-BATTERY maintainer which is not affected by power losses. Will restart when power returns. Will keep batteries fully charged. for extended length. Keeps my 48v pack at 53+ volt for weeks. Several folks on this site use it. Worth the 80/90 dollars to save an 800 pack.

Disconnect the negative cable from the pack, this will allow the OBC to reset while your charge the batteries.

Check the water level in each battery and add enough until the plates are submerged (do not fill the battery at this time).

If You have 12v batteries, charge each battery until fully charged.

If You have 8v batteries and access to two car charges, hook the charges in series (positive from one charger to negative on the other charger) and charge 3 batteries at the time (24v).

If You have 8v batteries but only one charger, set the charger to 2 amp and charge each battery until they read 10v.

Hook the negative cable back and use the Club Car charger.

After the Club Car finishes charging, disconnect the charger DC cord from the cart, wait 30 seconds and plug it back again.

Wait until the charge cycle finishes again.

Check the water level in each battery and fill it to the appropriate level.

If you have a meter, check the voltage, pack, and then each battery. Make sure you don't have one that is way off and killing the whole pack. I've had this happen on both my carts now. On one, I put a whole new pack in and on the other, I just replaced the bad battery with a used one of about the same age for now. Assuming they just need some juice, make sure there is enough fluid in each hole to cover the plates, then charge each one up (assuming they are 12v's) after disconnecting all cables. Once they are all charged individually, put the cables back on, and then plug the charger back in and let it run a full cycle and top off the fluids after that. Hopefully you'll be good to go after that.

By the way, if you don't have a meter, I'd go out and get one. Don't need a top of the line one for a cart.

Thanks Sergio and SaltLife! I'm in the oak ridge area, just north of greensboro. Yep, need to fill the batteries up with some distiller water as they are below the plates. I'll get a volt meter and keep a check on them. So disconnect ALL the cables and charge each one? Nice cart SaltLife! Funny I have a SaltLife cart as well. Mine is blue with skulls and different types of game fish airbrushed on it.

Mine is in the process of a makeover. I am getting a wrap on the body and I am going all black on the seats and roof. I will be saltlifecc in name only going forward.

If you have 12v batteries and can't get enough volts to trip the charger, either they are all very low or you have at least one bad one. Check the voltage all around first and go from there. If you have one way below the others, probably ought to get at least that one tested and replace it necessary. You should get about 5 years out of the 12v's but only if you take decent care of them.

The only cable You need to disconnect is the pack negative, and the only reason for doing so is to reset the OBC.

You must fully charge each individual battery before connecting the 48v charger.

Can do, but which one is the negative pack? When I tried my12v charger on each battery it read 0 on the chargers amp meter! Does that mean the batteries just need a good charge?

The battery pack main negative is the battery on the driver's side of the cart and the cable looks like it comes from the back of the cart...that is your main negative battery cable for the entire battery pack.
