Default Charging Question

This is my first cart. Its an 08 club ds. Mods are 2 gauge wire, 48 volt, D&D motor, and GE speed controller (think thats what its called...). The guy that sold it to me said the computer has be bypassed. Meaning when I hit the gas there is not delay. What is that called?

Main question here is I only drive the cart a few days a week to a barn, so it doesn't see much use. The guy said he only charged it every 3 weeks or so because he basically used it for the same amount of time every week. I read that you should charge it every time you use it regardless of use? I have had it 3 weeks now and the gauge has not moved, and I have not felt a loss of power.

What is the proper way to charge for minimal use?

Well the computer usually called an OBC is in charge of the length of time that the charger charges the batteries so if it has been bypassed you need to know if the charger has also been modded in some why or has it been replaced with the likes of a DPI charger that has its own "computer" and charges the batteries without interfacing with the carts OBC...

If properly set up you can keep your and SHOULD keep your charger plugged in to the cart whenever the cart is not in use as it will keep your batteries fully charged without harming them and this is in fact better....

Only since you bought your cart used do you need to investigate a bit more so that you know if your charger is either turning off or tapering down

Thanks, so basically I need to find out if my charger has a "trickle charge" or a battery tender function once the batteries are full?

Yes... Does your charger have an ampmeter on the faceplate and does it decrease output as the length of time increases?

Bypassing the on-board computer will not change the throttle delay. Can you posts some pics of your motor/controller/computer?

I need to check on the charger. Charged it last night and this morning you could not hear it running. I will get some pictures of everything tonight. It would be nice to know what I have. Thanks for your help

Is that a good or a bad thing? With my setup does it look like its a direct drive. Meaning it bypasses a computer and just uses the speed controller?
