Charger not coming on
I have a 36v club car ds that came with a powerwise charger... the charge was under the back seat of the cart and wired directly to the batteries... I could hear it hum when plugged in so I assumed it was working, however I soon realized that the batteries were not charging and also noticed that the amp meter did not move off of zero... I opened up the charger and found that the relay on the control board had been bypassed and one of the diode connections was broken... I replaced the diodes, control board and fuse (it tested bad)... the transformer and AC and DC wires tested good but the charger would not come on, not even a hum with no amps as before (tried it on two carts with battery packs at about 90% charge)... the only other thing I can find is the capacitor reads at 1.9 ohms where the range I found said it should be between 1.2 and 1.7 ohms... does it sound like the capacitor is bad and keeping the charger from turning on... thanx PHJ

Re: Charger not coming on
It's not the capacitor. That's close enough.

Re: Charger not coming on
powerwise for club car ...lol
here is a test video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=COxh3yWcx5w if i remember right you need to have the sence wire conected to the relay .. it is the reed switch in an ezgo .. i think it is the small black wire off relay to transformer connection with plug neg (3;05 on video ) someone else will have to confirm this |

Re: Charger not coming on
I never heard of resistance reading of a capacitor to determine its value
About the only thing You can check with an ohmmeter is if the capacitor is open or shorted, other than that, there is no way to verify the capacitance value. Be very careful around that capacitor, it has about 480v AC on it! The sense wire should be connected to the negative output of the charger. You can google the actual model number of your charger as they have either 4mfd or 3mfd versions. Since the charger is not coming on, I would connect the sense wire first and go from there. |
