Possible battery issue
I have a 09 Precedent CC. I have new batteries that are only a few months old. 4x12V setup
Hooked the cart up today to charge since pack is down to 50% per battery maintenance STICKY for the first few charges. Came home and smelt a slight plastic burning smell. Checked my cart and realized that it was coming from my charger. It sounded like the water was boiling inside the batteries so I disconnected the charger and check the voltage per the newly installed LED meter and it is reading the same 50% as it did when I connected to the charger 4hrs earlier. Is all of this normal or is something going on? I just don't want to burn up my new batteries if there is an issue with the charger or cart? Side note 1: Recently removed the factory battery charge indicator (orange light that indicates 10% charge left) and added a LED battery meter with separate wiring. I have not charged the cart since added the LED meter until today when this happened. Side note 2: For the last couple of weeks when I turn the key and put the cart into drive it doesn't always take off the first time. Sometimes I have to turn the key more that once or flip to forward more than once to get to to go. Runs great once it goes. I can't remember this issue before installing the LED meter. |

Re: Possible battery issue
What gauge did you buy? How many wire connections? How did you wire it? What did you do with the wires that were going to the battery light?

Re: Possible battery issue
LED battery meter. Positive connection to the positive side of the battery pack, Neg connection to the negative side of the batter pack, and the C connection to the cold side of the switch. I just left the wires to the battery light inside the dash. One with a wire nut on the end and the other with the factory male connector with a plastic sleeve cover (i.e. no exposed wire ends)

Quote:
You should not let your batteries sit uncharged for any long period of time. The OEM battery light would come handy in your situation since it would light up to indicate the batteries are not getting charged properly. One possibility that would fit your symptoms is that you do not have the red wire from the charger receptacle going to pack positive. That would generate a very high charging current since your are trying to charge only 40v.Check the receptacle wires are correctly connected to the battery pack. Get a voltmeter and check the batteries voltage individually. |

Re: Possible battery issue
Update:
Disconnected the charger from the wall and plugged in back in. I know it sounds ridiculous but a lot of electronics reset this way so I thought what the heck. Also made sure my wires to my cart's charging port were secure. Plugged the charger into the cart and it worked properly. Not sure if it was the charger or the charging port that had an issue but so far so good. Batteries charged in the proper amount of time and no issues. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it was a loose wire connection with the cart's charging port and not the charger going bad. Although I'm not sure how that would cause those symptoms. |
