Precedent Front Hub Bearings
Well after I got my buddy's Precedent all fixed up including the speed magnet, it has bearing noises coming from the front. I jacked it up and spun the wheels and it definitely needs new bearings. Any issues to note with changing the bearings or is it best to replace the entire hub?
I've seen bearing kits on eBay for around $40 and two new hub would cost double that. Thanks. |

Re: Precedent Front Hub Bearings
Looks like they're just ball bearings that press in to me. Two per hub of course, an inner and outer.
No races, no taper bearings to fool with, just a simple press the old out and the new in swap. Lots easier than on a DS, if I'm looking at the parts correctly. |

Re: Precedent Front Hub Bearings
That's what I'm seeing too, but I think the hubs are the same on the Precedent and later DS models from what I can tell. I'm going to do both sides since they're probably the same age.

Re: Precedent Front Hub Bearings
I just swapped the entire hubs out on mine. Didn't want the take a chance on beating up new bearings trying to swap them out on old hubs.

Re: Precedent Front Hub Bearings
It's a pain to get the new bearings in and out of the hubs. There's a crush sleeve/spacer in between the bearings that never wants to act right after changing the bearings either. I think that's why the factory doesn't offer them.

Re: Precedent Front Hub Bearings
So should I give the bearings a shot or replace the hubs?

Re: Precedent Front Hub Bearings
I quit replacing bearings a few years ago. Never had good luck with it.

I just replaced the bearings in mine and it was easy. Guess I got lucky.

Re: Precedent Front Hub Bearings
I had problems with the crush sleeves in between the bearings. I think there have been two different styles.

Re: Precedent Front Hub Bearings
Just bite the bullet and order a pair of hubs from TahoeDawg. He will ship them fast and make sure you get the right thing. That's what I did.
