I have to say from experience (100's of slams, not drops) that it won't break unless you let the housing hit the floor. Although I never got the armature off, I stood on paint cans to elevate myself, picked up the axle 4' off the floor, and repeatedly slammed it onto a 6x6, then 2x4, then steel plate. It was when I did the slam (and release) that I broke mine. I was somewhat relieved afterwards as the decision had been made to replace the entire axle, motor, and differential.

PS: Also removed the brake drum and lugs so it wouldn't soften the blow. Lots of dents in the plate steel.

I still can't believe that thing never came off. That's the first time I've ever heard of that. You're the lucky one I guess.

That's exactly how I felt. From everybody out there I got the one that wouldn't come off.

David, By the way, went on a vacation to Tybee Island a week ago and came near where you are as we were driving down. Think a little more to the east from you.

Anyway, didn't see a reply from Roel as to whether it worked.
