The aluminum trim piece does not have to come off. Remove a screw from each side (in glove boxes) and pop the dash out being careful not to ground out the key switch terminals on the frame when you do it.

I am saying .it isn't just popping off for me. its a tight fit .as it appears, Can i lift it off from the bottom?.just the center plastic piece. How much of the dash..pops out? just the small center section holding the lite and the key?

After the 2 screws are out, insert (about 1/2") a small flat blade screwdriver in one corner between the panel and metal trim. Then drag the screwdriver like a zipper. It is tight but the top of the panel will pop out.
