Smile finished voltage on charger

How does the club car 48 Volt charger determine when the batteries are fully charged?
Does it look for a certain voltage,or does it simply go by a timer?
When it has switched itself"off",does it still output a "maintenance" voltage on the batteries?
What if the cart is left on the charger and not used for weeks at a time, will the batteries suffer from this lack of charge?
Will the batteries not self discharge over time?
Thanks in advance for any information on this.

You didn't mention which charger you have. I have a CC and Powerwise II Charger. THe OBC determines how much has been used and and replaces what has been used. When it switches off it's off, no float maintenance. Batteries will loose about 1% per day when not charging.MY PWII will restart in 14/15 days to recharge batteries provided the power has not gone out. If power goes out you will have to remove plug from cart to restart. I use a SAV-A-BATTERY 48V maintainer and leave it plugged in when the main charger finishes. I leave it plugged in for weeks at a time with no problem. Not affected by power outages, will restart with power resumes. Hopefully this helps. Others will chime in I'm sure.

Welcome to BGW

Trojan's recommended charge curve for a single (2V) deep cycle wet cell. There are 24 cells in a 48V battery pack, so when you do the math you get 58.80V to 66.96V. However, Trojan uses an electrolyte that is 27.7% sulfuric acid by weight (SG = 1.277) and other battery manufacturers use different concentrations, so the on-charge voltage that is typically reached when their batteries are fully charged, will be higher or lower.

Very interesting info Where did you find this spec and where would I find for other batteries?

I have just purchased new Trojans but considered Crown batteries before I made purchase

Once the battery gets above about 58v there is no charging going on. All the energy being put into the battery is being converted to hydrogen and oxygen. These are the bubbles you see. This is why the CC chargers are junk/obsolete. Consider going to a modern charger like a DPI. With a DPI they recommend a finished voltage of 57.2 for Trojan batteries with other batteries it varies slightly.

DPI is junk. The only ones I handle are warranty claims.

DPI is a Transformer-Style charger just like the CC charger. Unless you are going to a Lester Summit or some other electronic, high-frequency charger, you are just pulling your dick.

Here is a little test. What makes a high frequency charger so much better? Do you think that there isn't a transformer in the HF charger. Why do you sell them?

Somebody linked me to your posts.
That's a load of crap from some one who's motto is we sell only the finest & then sells thunderbull chargers. That's about as low end product as you can get.
The DPI is a very good charger with very good 2 year warranty. Which they happily honor if you need a control board. It has dip switch selectable algorithms and a float mode with 30 day fresh charge when in storage mode.

Which charger does more than that for the price?

I'd certinly expect someone to back up their claims if they are going to make such harsh comment....
