new to me 2001 DS Cart, need to go faster
Hello I am new the forum and new to carting, but not new to mechanic or electrical. I've replaced engines, trannys, suspensions etc.
So I have a 2001 Club Car DS Regen, it has the rocker switch, no IQ port and is 48v and it's slow. We live in a community where the carts are street legal with the speed limit being 19mph. By my guessing the cart only goes about 12-13 mph. I have read here that I can change out the 48v motor and put in a 36v motor to get the speed at about 19 mph and still keep some torque. So my question is, what motor do people recommend that I put in and where can I get the said motor. Thanks Troy Peachtree City, Ga. |

Re: new to me 2001 DS Cart, need to go faster
1st welcome, why not go to a high speed motor which will take to to about 21 mph.........and than upgrade all 6 gage cables........now if the cart is going to be used on hills you might want to upgrade controllers..............................

Welcome to BGW
Yea, the 36 volt motor in place of a 48 is just like adding 12 more volts to a 36 volt motor. A 20%-25% increase. They are getting hard to find used because so many people have done it. You can keep your eye out on ebay or you can check with the site sponsors. I did a quick check on ebay...nothing used. Only new 36 volt motors all of which will require a controller and cable upgrade. |

Because from what I have read that going to a high speed 48v motor and not upgrading anything else I'll loose torque, but reading that if I go to a 36v motor I'll get the speed I need and keep the torque. Trying to keep the money down if I can. So was looking at what I can do with out getting a controller. |

Re: new to me 2001 DS Cart, need to go faster
Will this stock 36v motor, listed on the left hand side of this page, work in my 2001 48v DS Regen cart giving it more speed and torque?

Re: new to me 2001 DS Cart, need to go faster
thats why i mentioned about how the cart will be used........if its just on flat roads you,ll never notice anything but faster speed and doing all the cables will also help in not losing torque you won,t gain much at all but you won,t lose any either.........that and the fact you said money was an issue.........the right way is a motor, controller and cables along with a few other things but again if its just flat road driving just a motor will do..........i have done 3 in the past 2 years just upgrading to a new motor and not had nothing but compliments from the owners but keep in mind this is flat road campground driving............and even though i spelled it all out to them i also told them there is a chance for something to go wrong i just wanted them to be aware of that.......tried to cover all the bases but so far going on 3 years now and not a single issue...............................

Have EMP rebuild your motor. they make it switchable between torque and speed. They build motor so you can use the original controller and still gain speed.
