Plumquick for 36v resistor cart
I was looking on the Plumquick site, and saw that the Bandit rebuild should get an increase of around 20% of both torque and speed.
Anyone have real world experience with one? I've read a 48v solid state upgrade is the way to go, but I just bought 6v batteries, so I don't want to buy batteries again or a controller etc.... I did just order new 4awg cables throughout, and a new f&r switch. I am using this cart for golf 90% of the time. A lot of stops and starts. Only occasionally will I drive it more than a couple of non-stop miles at a time. Thanks, guys. |

Re: Plumquick for 36v resistor cart
Thanks for those links. I read through them and saw they were mostly for newer solid state carts. I've got an old school solenoid cart.
Just curious if I can pick up a few MPH's without completely rebuilding the electronics. |

Re: Plumquick for 36v resistor cart
You can use a Bandit on a resistor cart. Just keep in mind, the custom motors draw more amps and partial throttle keeps the resistors in the circuit. This is a recipe for burnt, though your 5 solenoid setup is stronger than the V-glide. Avoid long runs at part throttle and you'll be fine, IMO.

Re: Plumquick for 36v resistor cart
Just put one in my 93 that has the V-glide setup. Per GPS it now runs at 19mph on flat ground. I'm only guessing, but it only did about 12 mph prior to the upgrade. It also has substantially more power going up the steep, fairly long hill I have to climb betwixt my house and the golf course.
The only other thing I changed was one of the cables that runs from the F/R to the motor (it was overly warm) from 6G to 4G. I may go ahead and change the rest of the cables to see if that would gain one more mph just for shits and giggles, but I don't know if that would do it. They're slightly warm after climbing the hill, but not overly so. |

Re: Plumquick for 36v resistor cart
Awesome. Thanks guys. Yeah, I just got a complete 4 gauge cable set, and a new F&R.
I was just looking to clean up the ol' crusty crimped 6 gauge set. And I figured a 27+ year old f&r was a small amount of insurance for me, and whoever ends up with it down the road. I might very well send in this motor. Even if it's only going to get me a few MPH's, the uphill benefits sound good. As far as part (throttle) GO pedal... Well, I tend to just hammer down and hold it there. And it usually has a little time to cool down in between runs. People play slow.... lol. |
