Default Heavy duty leaf springs?

With heavy duty leaf springs do you still need the rear shocks on the cart? I left mine on the cart. But are they just adding a stiffer ride to the cart along with the already stiff springs ?

Shocks are there to make the ride soft. They slow the spring motion down and smooth out the bounce. If the springs are real stiff it's hard to slow down the bounce. Maybe add extra shocks might help.

Is it possible to remove a leaf or two out of the heavy duty springs? Has anyone done it? And can it be done?

Depending on leaf the manufacturer... yes, it can be done!

I did it with my buddies All Sports HD leafs, just reuse the straps that hold them together to keep the springs that are left from "fanning out"!

Shocks don't soften the ride, they can stiffen it,especially gas-charged or air-shocks.The leafs can be removed, the longer the leaf, the stiffer it is.Short leafs add more height than stiffness. You will need new Center-Bolts,since they are soft, and one-time use.You can get new ones at a spring-shop,unless your springs came with a standard bolt in them(I've seen a few like that before).Hope this helps.

I figured that the shocks were just adding to the stiffness. Did anyone with HD springs remove the shocks ? Is it hard to remove leafs or is it pretty easy? I'm a good mechanic just never fooled with springs before.

You really don't want to remove the shocks or more accurately, the dampeners. They keep you from bouncing around as the springs oscillate over bumps. Without them, your cart would look like a bobblehead doll going down the road.

The spring rate is what determines hard or soft ride.

I went with the dual action leafs, they work well ride good with little noticeably difference than stock but the biggest pain is they squeak like no tomorrow, I took them off lubricated everything I could but no help, my last resort it to take them apart, I think that is where they are squeaking.

It's just a stiff ride with the HD springs. I wish I could find a spring with just 2 leafs instead of 4. I think the HD springs are over kill for a golf cart.
