Help!! New batteries and club car ds won't run

1996 club car ds power drive. Just got the cart. Needed batteries. Punt in batterieS and I get a low humming. Won't go anywhere. I lift rear end off and I try and the wheels will spin about a 1/4 way each way but that's it. If I turn it off and on again it will do the same. I have no clue

Sounds like the solenoid is not engaging and You are getting a short burst from the controller capacitors discharging.

Plug Your charger in to make sure it works and wakes up the OBC.

If it still does not work, do you hear the solenoid click?

If not, the OBC lockout may not be working.

In your model the yellow wire that goes from the small solenoid post to the OBC would need to go directly to the controller B- to by-pass the OBC charger lockout.

What does that do? locking it out. I accidentally sparked something on the solonoid and now the cart works. Hoes only about 13mph. Now I have to figure out the onboard charger. I have it wires what I think it's supposed to. There is a black, red and blue wire from the charger. The charger hums but reads 0 on the gauge. If I put the black directly on the neg battery then it reads over 10. Right now the black is to the rear of the charging port like my diagram shows.

When the cart is charging, the OBC does not provide negative to the small solenoid post yellow wire.

That prevents the cart from being driven while the charger is still plugged. That feature is called a "lockout".

Make sure the fuse on the back of the charger receptacle is good and that there is another wire that goes from the charger receptacle to the OBC.

I wired it up exactly how that diagram shows. I just found out from the battery store near my house that when the charger amp meter reads zero, that means they are fully charged. Maybe it was working. They are new batteries. I'll wear them down a little and see

If he meant the ammeter drops to 0 after the charge is complete and the OBC turns the charger off, then yes.

The battery charger will always go to full amps when you first plug it because its output is much higher than the pack voltage at rest.

The charging computer then starts to throttle the amps once the voltage reaches a predefined voltage. This second "constant voltage" phase could be short depending on the SOC of the pack, but it will be always more than a few minutes.

You either don't have continuity from where the negative wire from the charger is connected to the charging receptacle, or the SCR inside the OBC is burnt and it will not allow current thru.
