09 CC Precendent IQ Charge Problem
My CC Precedent IQ charger will not shut off. It will charge all night and be running in the morning when I check it. It sound like the battery water is boiling the next morning. The batteries are fully charged (checked with voltage meter) but the charger is still running. The batteries are brand new and only have been charged a few times. The only changes made in the last few months are install of a battery meter. Also removed the orange OBC battery light meter (just disconnected). Battery meter works but but doesn't always read properly. when checked with a voltage meter. It is a standard bar style.
Could this be a charger port issue, charger issue, OBC issue? Definitely don't won't to replace the charger if I don't have to. |

Re: 09 CC Precendent IQ Charge Problem
Unless you want to be changing the batteries and the charger/obc you need to upgrade to a DPI charger. Before you ask an OBC reset will do nothing for you. The only thing that might be a easy fix is if you didn't get the red wire from the charger connected to the #1 battery positive.

Re: 09 CC Precendent IQ Charge Problem
I think you need to reconnect the OBC meter, I think it is a necessary part of the OBC design, otherwise you need to do that complete bypass and get a charger that can replace the OBC system as the DPI. It is common to see that orange light act funny but If you read in detail from the CC manual it explains why it acts that way. Not really a big issue now that you have a real voltmeter but use the two together and you should be fine.

Re: 09 CC Precendent IQ Charge Problem
I have a Links Series 26610 Charger from Lester Electrical. The guy I bought the cart from said it was a brand new charger and it visually looks like it. Of course you never really know for sure.
I will also reconnect the OBC battery light and see if that resolves the issue. The only reason I disconnected it was because I wanted to use the cutout for my light switch and put the battery meter in the hole I had the light switch in. There was more room behind the dash. Also, when the newly installed batter meter starts "misreading" it can be reset my disconnecting the power wire to it and reconnecting. I think I just bought a crapy meter. I see ppl on this forum complain about the standard bar style battery meters. |

Re: 09 CC Precendent IQ Charge Problem
I have disconnected the CC factory dash light on my cart without any issues...I don't believe that will effect anything based on my research and personal experience. Most of the bar gauges come with info that says they will take some cycling before they are accurate. Sounds like the previous owner was having issues as well...thus the new charger. I would look else where for the problem.

Re: 09 CC Precendent IQ Charge Problem
Cycling the batteries will have no effect on a bar gauge or VM and becoming more accurate, either they are accurate or they aren't. The batteries on the other hand will charge and cycle and over time will reach a higher charge or their full charge potential, that is what they probably were meaning, so the meter reading would eventually change accordingly. This process is commonly called the break in process.
As for as the dash light, that is why I said I think, because I thought on some particular models someone posted that is was needed, I didn't look at the schematics, I agree very possible you don't need it. One thing may be just because the charger runs over night it may be ok, sometimes it can run up to 16 hours before shutting down. you said that is was fully charge, so what is the voltage of the fully charged batteries after sitting 12 hours without the charger on? The is a small voltage range for them to be in to be considered fully charged and there are charts for that full state of charge. |

Re: 09 CC Precendent IQ Charge Problem
Bubbling like playing a piano that is normal during a long charge cycle, them batteries like that!
You're probably good without the light like "theboss20" said it shouldn't matter, I thought I heard that it was part of the circuit or something but that may be me having a brain fart LOL In the meantime read through this sticky post, note new batteries it is important to do the break in procedure properly to get the most out of them. |
