Exclamation How to get my stock cart up a hill

I got a stock 36 volt 1986 club car. It dont seem to have enough power to handle the hills i have at our campground. Im looking for some ideas on what to do to get it more power. Would a new set of gears do the trick, converting it to 48volt? What are the alternatives to electric over gas? Less things to go wrong?. Thanks.

Are the batteries in good shape?

Charge the battery pack then put a volt meter on the pack then try to climb a hill. Tell us what voltage the pack drops to while under hill climbing load.

You'll need to replace the entire power train. Which include motor, controller, batteries, wires to a larger gauge, charger and probably MCOR. You may consider a later model, at least a 2000 CC. Keep the one you have for a landfill cart.

1986 offered resistor coil (5 solenoid) type speed control. These systems do not handle the increase in voltage needed well. You will need to convert to solid state speed control and then you can go 48v and or aftermarket (beast) motor for all around performance upgrade

You can increase the voltage or motor horse power /torque for increased hill climbing. You will have to add a resistor coil but is very do-able.

Please provide a diagram of how this is done.

Before i were to go out and buy new batteries for the stock 36 volt setup would it be cheaper to change it over to the 48 volt system or comparable in price

You're not specific on "handle the hills at the campground": how steep are the hills, does the cart climb them, but slowly, or will it not climb them at all?

When I bought my first cart, an antique 36-volt resistor Legend, I asked the dealer if it would climb ramps into the bed of my p/u truck. He was very adamant that it would, with no trouble. He was correct, and I had no problem with hills, either.

Before getting carried away with modifications, I'd be sure that your cart is up to snuff as-is. Are the batteries in good shape and fully charged? Are the cables in good condition? Is anything getting hot during those hill climbs? Only the resistor bank should get more than slightly warm, and it will probably be shorted out completely when climbing a hill, so even it won't get hot. I believe that someone else asked about the pack voltage under load.

Really any small hill they seem to slow way down, flat grass or pavement and they are good. Reverse is very slow. The golf cart has sat for 3 years. I am looking at meters on ebay i found a digital read out meter for 10 bucks? Is this what i need? Do i need to test wvery battery or just one? Do i hook them up directly to the battery? Thanks
