Default More battery information...

I'm not well versed in electrical issues, however, am desperately attempting to learn. This forum and those knowledgeable individuals who are willing to share are a godsend.

Lots of posts regarding "the best" batteries recommend Trojan, Crown, JCI and others. That prompted me to google "who makes interstate batteries ?" and I found this link. It mentions many of the brands discussed in previous threads. I found it interesting so I thought I would share...

What they do not mention is that 'this company' manufactures batteries in Mexico where there is little if any quality control.

Interesting reading. It won't be long before they either own Crown or Trojan or both!!

I know that Deka batteries are made by East Penn which is in or near Reading, PA.

FWIW...I have no skin in recommending one brand over another, however, am only relating my personal experience. I have an 18' Duffy electric pontoon boat which is powered by 8 6v batteries. I replaced the Interstate Workaholic batteries last year that were dated 2005. I store the boat outside during NE winters, the batteries are not pulled from the boat. I make it a point to keep the plates covered and batteries charged. I treat the batteries the same at the recommended procedure for a cart...parked and plugged. Those particular batteries served me well...

DEKA is the largest "Independent" battery manufacturer in the world and all products are made in the USA. That being said the volume of golf cart batteries being sold are sold by Trojan with Crown right behind...these two companies specialize in Deep Cycle Batteries and their quality is outstanding.

I'll bet the EPA rules have a lot to do with where the batteries are made.
