New batteries not charging
Hello folks,long time reader and first time poster
I got a 04 club car precedent a few months ago and found out the batteries were shot. I went today and picked up 4 12v T-1275 Trojans and I have had them installed and charging for about 5 hours and the needle on the charger hasn't moved off of about 9. It's humming like its suppose to and everything but not really moving. With the old batteries it would charge them just fine. I know for the first charge it can take around 12 hours to charge fully, just wondering if the needle not moving is normal? Thanks |

Welcome to BGW , yes it can take up to 16 hours to fully charge.

Excluding unmenchioned and/or unforeseen issues new batteries can very well take upward of 16 or more hours to reach their full 100 % SOC (50.9 to 51.2 volts) you may very well see voltage upward of 60 to 62 while the charger is charging the batteries.... Older batteries often act like smaller batteries and appear to charge quickly just as they die quickly....

Just imagine how much more volume and usable cell space those new batteries have vs the old ones. That should help you understand the longer charge times. There's a lot more there for the charger to actually charge than there was before.

Yes the OBC times out after 16 hours, depending on software.

What's the recommended method for new batteries that just got installed? Let charge to full voltage then...
